Dear Sister Del Castillo:
You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. You are assigned to labor in the Perú Lima East Mission. It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 18 months. You should report to the Peru Missionary Training Center on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. You will prepare to preach the gospel in the Spanish language.
When people asked me where I wanted to go I had some places in mind (Mostly in the United States or Canada) but I seriously never thought I would actually be sent to South America. But if I did, I always said I wanted to go to either Peru or Colombia, since I have many dear friends from there, and the food in both cultures is awesome!
However I know that Peru is the place I’m supposed to go and where I’m needed. In my mission application I wrote down I wanted to learn a new language but something inside me kept telling me Spanish was the language I would be more useful in. I didn’t want the language to be an obstacle in my teaching. This was confirmed to me when a few weeks before getting my actual call, I had a dream where I was opening my call and I was sent to Peru! but instead of Spanish I was sent to speak a dialect. I remembered feeling disappointed in my dream and exclaiming “Nooooo I wanted to speak in Spanish! waaaah” and I was so worried about this new language I had been assigned to.
So yeah, the Lord knows our needs and knows us better than we know ourselves, however I know that even if he had assigned me to learn a really hard language I could learn it with his help because “…the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.” (1 Nephi 3:7) 🙂
